What is APIT in Sri Lanka?
APIT (Advance Personal Income Tax) is the tax an employer deducts from an employee's monthly remuneration and remits to the Inland Revenue Department — Sri Lanka's PAYE equivalent. It is calculated on the gross salary after the monthly personal relief.
How is monthly APIT calculated in 2025?
After a monthly personal relief of Rs 150,000, the balance is taxed in bands: 6% on the next Rs 83,333, then 18%, 24%, 30% and 36% on each successive slab, per IRD Table 01 effective 1 April 2025.
